The environment in which a vehicle based ICT system would be expected to operate is a very harsh one. Variations of temperature, noise, vibration and humidity fall outside the normal operational parameters of a desktop machine. So an in depth knowledge of what can, and more importantly what can not perform how you want it to is paramount. What software fits what hardware, and knowledge of how both of them interact is also an essential skill. After all the expenditure on the correct vehicle, fit-out, interior and exterior graphical input, all of it would be wasted if your IT systems fail.
