Eurofighter – Typhoon

Vipex were commisioned to build the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft simulators and replicas by the Royal Air Force in several different configurations.

Typhoon Simulator

The first unit to be built was a 20 seater Vipex Morphis capsule simulator trailer with a program to give the riders an idea of the capabilities of the Eurofighter.

This was then followed by the full Eurofighter facsimile which took 18 months to build and was scaled up from a 6 foot model. The unit is completely self-contained, needing no back up vehicle and two men can deploy it.

Typhoon Interactive Simulator

The full Eurofighter replica features a single replica cockpit with 3 LCD screens, interactive joystick, surround sound, illuminated warning lights and control displays. As with all Vipex products the unit is hydraulically deployed and designed and built from scratch, including chassis, bodywork and wings.

The next variant was a single seater motion simulator with interactive joystick. This airplane simulator featured the Vipex Eurofighter fuselage front mounted on a full motion electrical simulator base, controlled by computer, aided by
the pilot.

This was mounted on a 10 metre trailer and has a blanked off cockpit canopy to give the impression of flight inside the cockpit during the ride. Finally there are two smaller cockpits which are scaled down and mounted on trolleys
and these are purely static cockpit displays for smaller exhibitions.
